When Influence Turns to Impact
While it’s no secret that national sports organizations inherently have reach and fan buy-in, many brands still struggle with how to activate that influence in ways that feel meaningful, authentic, and community-centric, especially when it comes to corporate social responsibility. Over the past year, we have had the ability to help shape a couple of events for sports organizations that have not only drawn an audience, but activated them in ways that impacted their communities.
Champions for Change: Turning Moments Into Movements
When Spurs Give invited CE to produce Champions for Change, the task wasn’t just to put on a great gala, it was to create the only full-team experience of the year that connected donors, players, and community in a way that felt both exclusive and impactful.Our Events team didn’t produce a typical fundraiser. We produced an experience for a curated guest list of potential donors. Kicks for a Cause brought local San Antonio artists into the story with 33 player-inspired sneaker designs, turning what could have been average merchandise into one-of-a-kind fan swag that also served as fundraising opportunities. Guests were able to interact with players, compete in games, scan QR codes for live raffles, and walk away with something that felt personal and purposeful. The event raised $450,000 for Spurs Give, the non-profit arm of the Spurs organization, but more importantly, it strengthened trust and community investment by linking art, access, and social good in a way that felt genuinely worth participating in.
Sports for Healing: Showing Up Where It Matters Most
In the wake of the July Fourth floods in the Texas Hill Country, the need for the impacted community to rebuild both physically and emotionally was real and urgent. CE worked with Spurs Give and other partners to activate more than 30 professional sports teams, the largest collective of its kind in Texas history, to deliver Sports for Healing, a day where kids in recovery zones could participate in sport clinics, meet mentors, and reclaim a sense of normalcy. More than 2,000 community members showed up to interact with teams like the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros and others during a programmed day full of family-friendly activities. Our team designed the experience to be cohesive, dignified, and rooted in community and we made sure resources flowed back into the region by prioritizing local vendors and partners.
The results were truly remarkable as the community felt seen and supported by sports organizations and fans from across the state. It was a moment that was only able to be accomplished through presence and intentionality by each brand represented.
